The Marine Botany Lab was founded in 1946 by the late Dr. T. Tanaka at the Department of Fisheries, Kagoshima University, Japan. Over the past half-century, our lab has earned high regard in the field of phycology and made significant contributions to the development of seaweed utilization. We are also known as the southernmost seaweed lab in a Japanese university. Currently, our research focuses on elucidating the specific diversity and ecology of tropical seaweeds in the western Pacific.
