最南端のアマモ群落で調査 (Field survey of Zostera marina at the southern-most distributional lmit of western Pacific)

大学院生のK野君が鹿児島県指宿市にある日本最南端のアマモ群落で調査をおこないました。
Mr Kawano, MS Candidate of Marine Botany Lab, conducted the field survey at Ibusuki City, Kagoshima Prefecture.  He has a project of eco-physiological study of Japanese seagrass, Zostera marina. This seagrass bed is known to be the southern-most distributional limit of Zostera marina in the western Pacific.

隠岐のワカメは、湯通しして塩蔵にする一般的なワカメと異なり、水洗いして板ノリ状に乾燥し、販売しています。養殖も高密度で栽培し、葉厚の薄い若い個体を収穫している点が特徴です。

三陸で大規模な磯焼けの恐れ、震災の影響 (Seaweed degradation in Sanriku region, Tsunami disaster)

毎日新聞は26日、津波による土砂やがれきの堆積によって、三陸沿岸各地で磯焼けが発生する恐れがあることを報道しています。岩手県の調査です。

下甑島での調査、チャボオバクサ、カメノテ (Field Work in Shimokoshiki Island, including Pterocladiella nana)

甑島列島は薩摩半島西部沖約40kmにある島々で、上甑島、中甑島、下甑島の3島と小島嶼からなります。甑島にはこれまで何度も訪れていますが、最南端の手打地区には行ったことがありませんでした。漫画「Dr.コトー診療所」の舞台（モデルとなった先生は今も地域医療に従事）になったところです（注：原作）。

Yesterday and today, I was in Shimo-Koshiki island to conduct the survey and meeting. Shimo-Koshiki Island is an island chain of Koshiki Islands, 40km of the west offshore from Satsuma Peninsula, Kagoshima Prefecture. 
I had visited this island several times. However, it was the first time visit to Teuchi village that is located in the southern-most place of the island. 

佐賀県産ノリ，8年連続日本一 (Nori of Saga Prefecture: the higest production in Japan)

朝日新聞は4月20日，佐賀県産の養殖ノリが生産枚数，販売額ともに8年連続日本一になる見通しであると報道しています。販売額は福岡県と共に過去最高を記録しました。

津波による三陸ワカメの影響 (Tsunami Disaster: Damage of Undaria cultivation)

読売新聞は4月20日，三陸のワカメ養殖が津波によって甚大な被害を受けたとを報道しています。ワカメ養殖は例年3-4月に収穫の最盛期を迎えますが，例年よりも養殖が遅れていたため，本格的な収穫前に津波の被害を受けてしまいました。津波前の今季の収穫量は，宮城県で635トン，岩手県で15トンと報道されています。
（参考：平成16年の生産量，宮城県約19000トン，岩手県約27000トン）

福岡県産（有明海）海苔の販売枚数が過去最高 (Highest production ever recorded, Nori (Porphyra) of Fukuoka)

西日本新聞は3月29日，福岡県の有明海産養殖海苔の今シーズンの販売枚数が22億枚を超えて過去最高になったと報道しています。

Harvested Nori (Porphyra) from Ariake Bay of Fukuoka Prefecture had sold more than 2.2 billion sheets in the last winter season (Dec 2010 through March 2011). It was the highest production ever recorded.

海松文（ミルの紋様）の陶磁器 (Traditional Codium pattern on the Amakusa porcelain)

緑藻ミルは古くから日本人になじみのある海藻で，形態をデザイン化した紋様（海松文）が着物や陶磁器に用いられています。海松文を用いた陶磁器をつくっている窯元があるときき，調査の合間に天草下島まで見学にいってきました。天草は陶石の産地として有名なところでいくつも窯元がありますが，見学したのは天草高浜焼寿芳窯です。

Distinguished appearance of Codium fragile (green algae) has been recognized in Japanese culture from more than thousand years ago, and ancient people had printed it on various clothes or porcelains. We know the "Codium pattern" as "Miru-Mon" in Japanese.
On the way to the field work, I visited a traditional porcelain manufactory that makes "Miru-Mon" porcelain in Amakusa Island, Kumamoto Prefecture.

桜島や喜入での調査実習 (Practical field work of coastal biodiversity in Kagoshima)

沿岸多様性生物学実習が3日から始まりました。鹿児島大学水産学部3年生向けの実習（2単位）で，前期開講前に集中して実施しています。今年も20名以上の学生が受講しています。

Practical field work of coastal biodiversity, a class for undergraduate students, has begun from last Sunday. More than twenty students attended.
