マコンブの光合成における光の波長利用特性

3月に修士課程を修了した卒業生がマコンブの光合成における光の波長利用特性に関する論文をこのほど刊行しました。

マコンブは水深2〜15mでの漸深帯に生育しますが，クロロフィルaが光合成に利用する赤い波長の光はこの水深帯に十分に到達しません。本種の光合成を青，緑，赤色光のLEDと白色光（メタルハライドランプ：太陽光の波長構成に類似）で測定したところ，青い光のみで白色光と同等以上に光合成することが明らかになりました。マコンブが含有するフコキサンチンは，青色光に吸収スペクトルのピークがあることが知られていますが，このような補助色素が青色光のみの環境下で効率よく機能し，光合成をおこなっているものと考えられます。

Annual kelp survey

Prof Ryuta Terada (Marine Botany Lab) attended an annual survey for the long-term monitoring of kelp assemblages in Muroran, Hokkaido, Japan. It was conducted in collaboration with the Hokkaido University Muroran Marine Station and our lab.

北海道大学北方生物圏フィールド科学研究センター室蘭臨海実験所（北海道室蘭市）で藻場のモニタリング調査が行われ，研究室の寺田も参加しました。

チャラツナイ浜

室蘭市 にはマコンブ（製品名マコンブ，ヤヤンコンブ），ミツイシコンブ，ガゴメコンブ，スジメ，アナメなどのコンブ類が多く繁茂しており，北海道南西部の典型的 なコンブ藻場が見られます。この調査は毎年この時期に実施しており，環境省の「モニタリングサイト1000沿岸域調査」として，調査結果が後日公開される 予定です。

2nd day in Hyogo（WS2日目）

On the second day, annual monitoring survey was successfully done in Takeno that is facing to the Sea of Japan. Fortunately, there was calm waters under the fine clear sky.

Workshop for the seaweed survey in Kobe University（神戸大の藻場モニタリングワークショップに参加）

Two students of our lab participated with a workshop that was held at Kobe University. This WS was held as the joint activity of the annual survey for the long-term assessment of natural seaweed communities (Grant from the Ministry of Environments).

For this survey and WS, more than ten phycologists and students from five different institutions were participated. As the first day, we conducted the field survey at the site in Awajishima-Island that is facing to the Kitan Straits, Pacific Ocean.

Annual survey in Awaji-shima（淡路島で環境省モニタリングサイトの調査を実施）

An annual field survey of the long-term monitoring of kelp forest was conducted in Awaji-shima Island. This is the part of governmental nation-wide survey, and the phycologists of some universities and research institution were attended. The results of this survey will be published from the Japanese Ministry of Environment by the end of next March.

Field survey in Muroran（室蘭でモニタリング調査を実施）

After I finished a workshop in Nagasaki University, I moved to Hokkaido to conduct the field survey of kelp forest in Muroran. Researchers of Hokkaido, Mie and Kagoshima University were attended.
Indeed, we were expected to conduct it in July, but it was postponed by bad weather. Today, weather was good almost without waves.
北海道室蘭市でマコンブ群落のモニタリング調査を実施しました。7月は荒天で中止になりましたが，今回は快晴で波もなく，無事に調査ができました。

Muroran Marine Station of Hokkaido University was already moved to the downtown of the City in 2012, but old building was still there.

Muroran Marine Lab of Hokkaido University （北大室蘭実験所）

1年ぶりに北海道大学北方生物圏フィールド科学研究センター室蘭臨海実験所を訪問しました。

This week, I am staying at the Muroran Marine Laboratory of Hokkaido University. I have to come back home this weekend, but will be back here in September.

神戸大のモニタリングに参加

神戸大の内海域環境教育研究センターが毎年実施している淡路島と豊岡市竹野の海藻モニタリング（環境省モニ1000）に参加しました。

淡路島由良の調査サイト。毎年見ている光景ですが，今年は対岸の和歌山市がはっきり見えました。 沖に見えるのは神戸大の調査船「おのころ」です。

37th Annual Meeting of JSP in Kofu City（藻類学会37回大会に参加）

The 37th Annual Meeting of Japanese Society of Phycology was held this week at the University of Yamanashi, Kofu City. More than 150 participants attended.

日本藻類学会第37回大会が今週，山梨大学で開催されました。海藻研からは寺田と院生2名が参加し，以下の演題を発表しました。

National Museum of Nature and Science（科博訪問）

On the way back from Hokkaido, I stopped over at the Herbarium of Botany Department, National Museum of Nature and Science, Tsukuba.
In the last time visit, buildings for other departments (that is expected to move from Tokyo) has still been constructed. But now, everything completed.
北海道からの帰路、国立科学博物館植物研究部を訪問しました。1年前に訪問したときは他の研究部門の建物が建築中でしたが、すべて完成して移転も完了していました。

東京駅には大学がたくさんある

先日、北海道とつくばの研究者、私の3人で今後の研究の打合せをしましたが、場所は東京駅の“北大”でした。

東京駅（正確にはサピアタワー）には大学のオフィスがたくさん入居しているんですね。同じフロアーには東北大もありました。

都内に拠点がない私たちには便利な施設ですね。ここを利用してから自分の大学を調べてみると、鹿児島大学は山手線の田町駅そばにあることを知りました。会議が続いて東京滞在が続くときは、こういう施設で仕事ができるのかもしれません。

神戸大の調査に参加 (Filed survey in Hyogo Prefecture)

桜島で海藻観察会をした2時間後，九州新幹線に乗って兵庫県に移動しました。神戸大の研究グループが淡路島と豊岡市竹野で実施する藻場調査に参加するためです。夜10時をまわってしまいましたが，淡路島にある神戸大マリンサイトに無事到着しました。
After I finished the seaweed observation program in Sakurajima, I moved to Awajishima Island of Hyogo Prefecture via Kobe by Shinkansen. Because I arrived at marine station of Kobe University at 10 o'clock, It was around five hours trip.

 翌朝，淡路島の南部で調査をしました。神戸大，鹿児島大，三重大，水産大，瀬戸内水研による合同調査です。
Next morning, I attended the field survey of Kobe University. Phycologists of some other institutions including Mie University, National Fisheries University also attended.

紀淡海峡に面したこの場所には，カジメやホンダワラ類の豊かな藻場が残されています。天候に恵まれ，予定通りに調査は終了しました。ここから・・・
It was absolutely beautiful seaweed forest. I think that the species richness of this site might be relatively higher than other places in Osaka Bay.

宮島周辺で海藻採集 (Gracilaria vermiculophylla in Miyajima Shrine)

今月末はいろいろなところで調査をしていました。島にも行きました。書ききれないので，広島での調査の様子だけ紹介します。
I have been to some places including Miyajima Shrine, Hiroshima Prefecture, to collect seaweed samples.

神戸大でのWS

神戸大学内海域環境教育研究センターで「Calcareous Macroalgae Workshop: Genetic diversity and their vulnerability to global climate change」と題した国際ワークショップがありました。私は特に炭酸カルシウムを沈着させる藻類に特化した研究をしている訳ではありませんが，ここ数年PAMを使った藻類の光合成活性に関することをしているので，主催者のK井先生がお招きくださいました。
