公開講座「発見!体感!本物の海藻を見てさわって食べて『海の森図鑑』をつくろう」を開催

 独立行政法人日本学術振興会ひらめき☆ときめきサイエンスKAKENHI事業(研究成果公開促進費)に採択された公開講座「発見!体感!本物の海藻を見てさわって食べて『海の森図鑑』をつくろう」(主催:大学院連合農学研究科,寺田竜太教授)が2021年7月24日(土)と31日(土)の2日間,鹿児島大学水産学部(下荒田キャンパス)で開催され,鹿児島県内の小学校5,6年生12名が参加しました。

 
調査研究で採取された様々な海藻類
 
 7月24日は,お話しや観察を通して海の中に「海藻の森」があることを学び,鹿児島大学の調査研究の中で採取された26種の海藻を用いて,押し葉標本を作成しました。また,海苔やコンブ,ワカメ,ヒジキなど,食べられる海藻の生きている姿を観察しました。

 7月31日は,一週間かけて乾燥させた押し葉を台紙にはり,ラベルをはって「学術標本」にしました。その後,できあがった標本をクリアーブックに入れて,世界でひとつだけ,自分だけの「海の森図鑑」を完成させました。また,水産学部の研究室や調査機器類の見学も行いました。

 この公開講座は,科学技術研究費(科研費)の研究成果還元事業として実施され,大学院連合農学研究科と水産学部の教職員で企画されました。昨年度は新型コロナウイルスの影響で開催を辞退したため,今年は2年ぶり9回目の開催になりました。開催に際しては,参加者を教室の収容定員の半分以下とし,マスク着用の上で間隔を広くとることで,対面での実習の基準を満たした上で実施しました。
 
過去10年間連続で採択されている本公開講座は,日本学術振興会からも高く評価されており,平成29年度には「ひらめき☆ときめきサイエンス推進賞」を授賞しました。また,よく練られた企画として,日本学術振興会のWeb Siteで過去2回,事例紹介されています。

New article: Sargassum muticum

 In a new study out yesterday, a Ph.D. student Tomoiro Ito and co-authors revealed the effects of irradiance, temperature, and desiccation on the photosynthesis of a brown alga, Sargassum muticum (Fucales) from its native distributional range in Japan. サガラメは日本固有種で新種Eisenia nipponica であるという内容の論文


褐藻アラメ属Eiseniaが数年前にカジメ属Eckloniaにまとめられましたが,サガラメの研究で再び独立した属として扱うことが提唱されました。
サガラメにはEisenia arboreaの名前が充てられてきましたが,北米のEisenia arboreaとは異なることが明らかになり,新種Eisenia nipponicaが記載されました。サガラメは静岡県御前崎から紀伊半島に生育する固有種ということになります。

New article: Meristotheca papulosa トサカノリは緑色光や青色光だけでも十分に光合成が可能で、緑色光を当て続けると赤みが増す論文


Our new article out from the Journal of Applied Phycology.
Despite the absence of red light that is essential to the photosynthesis by chlorophyll-a, a deep subtidal red alga Meristotheca papulosa can photosynthesize effectively by using the green light that penetrates into the subtidal water. Under the blue and green light exposures for 7-day culture, a phycobilisome, phycoerythrin (PE) concentration of the alga increased, suggesting improved reddish-color the alga.

New article: Monitoring Stes 1000: Ten‐year overview and future perspectives 環境省モニタリングサイト1000沿岸域藻場モニタリング:10年間の成果と展望
