ペルーやフィジー，インドネシアなどから来訪した参加者5名が有用海藻を中心とした藻類の生態や生活史，養殖法を学びました。午後には各自が顕微鏡を用いて海藻の生殖器官の観察を行いました。今回の材料は食用海藻としても有名なアサクサノリでした。精子嚢を見つけるのに苦労していましたが，最後には全員が雌雄の生殖器官の違いや果胞子放出の特性を理解しました。

Today, there were a special lecture for the foreign participants who have been invited by the Overseas Fishery Cooperation Foundation of Japan (OFCF). This is a part of the official program by the Faculty of Fisheries Kagoshima University regarding the Leadership Development in Fisheries Management. I attended as a invited instructor for a whole day program of the phycology.
I told the characteristics and utilization of marine macro algae including Japanese edible seaweeds. After the lecture, participants observed the reproductive organ of the edible alga, Pyropia tenera, using the microscopes.
