薩南諸島における海草の分布


2012年に水産増殖(日本水産増殖学会)から刊行された研究室の論文がオンラインでダウンロードできるようになりました。
この論文では,薩南諸島(種屋久,奄美群島)における熱帯性・温帯性海草の分布状況を明らかにしました。熱帯性の海草は沖縄以南,温帯性海草は九州以北でよく調査・研究されていますが,奄美群島や種屋久は情報が不足していました。各種の分布図から,この地域が温帯性・熱帯性海草の分布推移帯(エコトーン)であることがよく分かります。

Field laboratory class of Coastal Biodiversity(桜島での海洋多様性生物学実習)


Despite the Easter Sunday, we had an intensive field laboratory class of Coastal Biodiversity for undergraduate students.

Annual meetingof Japanese Society of Phycology(日本藻類学会第39回大会)


The 39th annual meeting of Japanese Society of Phycology (JSP35) has been held at Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan. According to the organizer, more than 200 participants  seems to be attended.
From our lab, five students including two undergraduate students presented own research. Next meeting will be held in Tokyo in March 2016.

This is the first report of the diurnal change of photosynthetic efficiency of economically important alga, Kappahycus alvarezii from Vietnam. From the figures in our article, you can clearly see the characteristic change of the effective quantum yield during the day and under strong irradiance.

Pyropia tenera survey in Kumamoto(熊本でアサクサノリの調査)


Field survey of an endangered alga, Pyropia tenera, was conducted at a site in Kumamoto Prefecture.

This species is known as an edible alga in Japan. However, due to the loss of the habitat, extinction of the natural population has also been seriously concerned.
Characteristic photobiology of this species was recently reported by our team.

Porphyra survey at Minami-Satsuma City(坊津で坊ノリの調査)


Field survey of Pyropia (= Porphyra) was conducted at a rocky shore in Minami-Satsuma City, Kagoshima Prefecture. Fortunately, we found a big Pyropia population on the rocks in the upper intertidal zone facing the East China Sea. Indeed, rocks were mostly covered by the alga. 
薩摩半島南西部にある南さつま市坊津でアマノリ類の調査を行いました。この種は地元で「坊ノリ」と呼ばれており,波あたりの激しい沖合の瀬に生育しています。数年ぶりに来ました。


This alga, known as Bo-Nori for local people, was formerly harvested by fishermen in Winter, and was indispensable to their dietary culture.

Sargassum fusiforme in Kagoshima(鹿児島のヒジキ)


Introducing an underwater view of Sargassum fusiforme population in Sakurajima, Kagoshima, Japan. This is the actual current status before the harvest. This species, known as Hijiki In Japanese, will be harvested by fishermen in April and May.

Symposium "Biodiversity of Ryukyu Islands, its characteristics and conservation" (日本生態学会講演会「南西諸島の生物多様性,その成立と保全」)


We will be having an symposium entitled as "Biodiversity of Ryukyu Islands, its characteristics and conservation" at 62th annual meeting of Ecological Society of Japan. The annual meeting of ESJ is held only for the members, but this symposium is open for the public. Free of charge.
 It will be held at #101 room, Faculty of Education, Kagoshima University at 13:00 to 16:30 on March 22 2015.

第62回日本生態学会大会が2015年3月18日から22日まで,鹿児島大学郡元キャンパスで開催されますが,大会最終日の22日には第18回日本生態学会講演会「南西諸島の生物多様性,その成立と保全」と題した公開講演会が開催されます。

Recipe of Chondria crassicaulis(ユナの食べ方(鹿児島県薩摩川内市の地方名ギンバサ))


Introducing the recipe of Chondria crassicaulis
Chondria crassicaulis (Rhodomelaceae) is a red alga that can be found on the rocky substrata in the lower intertidal zone, and is distributed in all four major islands of Japan. This species is not typical edible alga like Nori; however, local people in the rural fishermen villages in Kagoshima prefer this species as the spring natural foodstuff.

ユナ(Chondria crassicaulis紅藻イギス目フジマツモ科)は北海道から九州にかけて広く分布する紅藻です。中国地方の日本海側では食用にする地域があるようですが,食用海 藻として流通することはほとんどありません。鹿児島でも薩摩川内市などの一部で食べられていますが,地域内で消費されることがほとんどです。

ユナChondria crassicaulis(紅藻イギス目フジマツモ科)

薩摩川内市の西方地区では「ギンバサ」と呼ばれており,春先のみに食べられる季節の食材です。
調理法はいたって簡単です。

Keynote in Amakusa, Kumamoto(第1回天草海づくり報告会で講演)


Ryuta Terada was invited to the regional fisherman's conference that was held by Amakusa Municipal Office in Kumamoto Prefecture, and gave a talk. Our lab has conducted the field surveys in this region for more than 10 years, and in the keynote, he reported the current status of kelp forest including the coastal ecosystem.

研究室教員の寺田が天草市主催の「第1回天草海づくり報告会」で講演しました。私たちの研究室では,10年以上にわたって熊本県天草地域の海藻や藻場の調査を実施しています。今回の講演は,これらの調査結果を地元の方々にご紹介するよい機会となりました。

Best Presentation Award(大学院生が日本水産学会九州支部会で優秀学生発表賞を受賞しました)


Iori Tatamidani, a MSc student of the lab, won the Best Presentation Award at the Kyushu regional meeting of Japanese Society of Fisheries Science that was held in Miyazaki on January 10 .

大学院水産学研究科修士課程の畳谷伊織さんが,宮崎市で1月10日に開催された日本水産学会九州支部総会の口頭発表で優秀学生発表賞を受賞しました。受賞した発表演題は以下のとおりです。

九州南部における海産顕花植物2種の光合成活性

畳谷さんは,鹿児島湾に生育する海草2種(アマモとコアマモ)の光合成における光や温度の影響について,酸素電極とパルス変調クロロフィル蛍光測定を用い て明らかにしました。海草は沿岸域における主要な基礎生産者として重要な役割を担っていますが,海草藻場の減少が深刻な問題になっています。本発表では, 水温の変化が光合成活性に与える影響を明らかにすると共に,日中の光量変化に伴う光合成活性の変化を水中でリアルタイムに測定し,応答の過程を明らかにし ました。

Porphyra (=Pyropia) survey in Tanegashima(種子島でアマノリ類の調査を実施)


A PhD student, Watanabe conducted the field survey of Pyropia (= Porphyra) species in Tanegashima Island which is known as one of the northernmost island in the Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan. Indeed, four species of Pyropia including an endemic species Pyropia tanegashimensis can be found in this island.

Nemalionopsis tortuosa in Amami Island(オキチモズクの調査を奄美で実施)


Monitoring survey of an endangered freshwater red alga, Nemalionopsis tortuosa was conducted in Amami Island. This species can be found in the downstream of clean freshwater wellspring from winter through early summer.

Phenology and characteristic photobiology of this species were recently reported by our research groups (Fujimoto et al. 2014).
