「海洋と生物」で「海藻標本採集者列伝」が連載開始

隔月刊の雑誌「海洋と生物（生物研究社）」の2月号より、「海藻標本採集者列伝 Biographies of Japanese algological collectors」と題した新連載が始まります。国立科学博物館植物研究部の北山太樹さんが執筆されます。

本誌ではホンダワラ類の連載が始まったばかりですが、藻類の連載が3本（赤潮、ホンダワラ、標本）になることになります。

Nori Cultivation in Tokyo Bay（富津岬沖の海苔養殖場とアマモ場）

Before landing at Tokyo Haneda airport, airplane sometimes passes through over Chiba Prefecture, near Tokyo. So, especially in Winter season, I always reserve a window seat of the right side to see Nori (Porphyra / Pyropia) cultivation that is conducted at off the coast of Chiba Prefecture in Tokyo Bay. However, if you want to see the beautiful Mt Fuji, I recommend the left side seat.

この時期，天気のよい日に東京出張すると富士山がよく見えます。ほとんどの人はそちらを眺めますが，私は右側の座席を指定し，海苔養殖場を眺めます。

BS study poster session（卒業研究発表会）

Poster session of the BS candidate in the Division of Fisheries Biology and Oceanography was held at Fisheries Department of Kagoshima University. Generally, BS candidates of Japanese national universities are required to conduct own research to get the credit of compulsory subject, "BS Thesis".

鹿児島大学水産学部水産学科水産生物海洋学分野の卒業研究発表会が行われました。

Pyropia (=Porphyra) tenera survey using Diving-PAM（大学院生がDiving-PAMを使って日本最南端の養殖アサクサノリの調査を実施）

Mr Yuki, MS candidate of the Marine Botany Laboratory, conducted the field survey of photosynthetic activity at the aquaculture field of Pyropia (= Porphyra) tenera using the Diving-PAM. Diving-PAM is known to be a powerful tool to elucidate the photosynthetic characteristics at natural habitat especially in the field of coral and seagrass biology. Although there are some papers of Porphyra using Diving-PAM, I guess that his survey might be the first trial study for Japanese cultured species.

大学院水産学研究科のW邉君がDiving-PAMを使ってアサクサノリの生理状態を現地で調査しました。PAMを使って海苔養殖の生理状態を水中で迅速診断するのはおそらく（たぶん）日本初だと思います。

Caulerpa salad and drink (Seaweed survey in Krabi Thailand 1)

I will be in Krabi of Thailand this week to conduct the seaweed collection survey with Thai and Belgian scientists. Although detailed reports will be updated after come back home, I uploaded two photos of Caulerpa that were found in the dinner (not underwater, on the dish).
海藻調査でクラビーに来ていますが，夕食の席でKhan先生（カセサート大学）がイワズタの一種をサラダで持ってきてくれました。海ぶどうとは違う種類ですが，こちらの方がさらに美味しいです。

鹿児島湾における藻場の分布と特性

鹿児島湾の藻場については不定期に調査をしていますが，湾全域で調査した2006年の結果が日本水産学会誌で発表されました。下記サイトよりpdfがダウンロード可能です。鹿児島県水産技術開発センターと鹿児島大学水産学部の水圏植物学研究室の共同研究でした。

T/S Nippon-Maru（帆船日本丸を見学）

Lab members had an opportunity to visit the T/S Nippon-Maru. This is a famous sailing vessel operated by NIST (National Institute for Sea Training), and is calling at Kagoshima Harbor. Unfortunately, I could not visit there.

Melosira varians

An owner of a resort hotel in Kirishima Heights, Kagoshima Prefecture, invited me to identify an unknown alga that is occurred in a fresh water pond.

高原の池の藻を調査してほしいと依頼を受け，霧島のとあるところに行ってきました。

Melosira varians

It wasn't a macro-alga. This alga was considered to be a diatom, Melosira varians on the basis of the characteristic morphology and habitat. Indeed, this species is known to be prefer higher pH waters around 8 to 9, and it was almost identical with those of this study site.

Algal Images 2012 (藻類学会60周年記念DVD)

As the celebration of 60th anniversary of the Japanese Society of Phycology (JSP), JSP published a DVD named as "Algal images 2012" in the official journal, the Japanese Journal of Phycology volume 60 (3). This DVD includes more than 3000 photos and mpg files of Japanese algae. More than 300 photos of macro algae were distributed from our laboratory.

This DVD is not for sell. Distributed only to the society members of the JSP.

Intensive class of Phycology at the University of Miyazaki（宮崎大学で藻類分類学の集中講義）

An intensive class on Phycology was carried out in the University of Miyazaki this week. More than 40 undergraduate students attended.

宮崎大学農学部海洋生物環境学科で藻類分類学の講義がありました。4日間の集中講義で，40名以上の学生が受講しました。鹿児島から宮崎へは車で約2時間ですので日帰りできますが，4日間連続の講義なので宮崎市内に宿泊しました。

まだ積み残しの仕事が多く残っていますが，あっという間に年末になってしまいました。

Thorea okadae（チスジノリの標本）

A fresh water red alga, Thorea okadae, is endemic to Japan, has been confirmed from several rivers in Kyushu Island, and appears to be rare in Honshu Island. Due to it rarity, habitats in the Kikuchi and Sendai Rivers, of Kumamoto and Kagoshima Prefectures, respectively, have been registered as natural monument of Japan. Recently, I had an opportunity to observe the herbarium specimens of this alga for the preparation of manuscript of the revised red list of Japan.

レッドデータブックの改訂版でチスジノリを担当することになり，標本を観察するために鹿児島県水技センターを訪問しました。

ここの標本の驚くところは，A3の台紙ではなく，藻体の大きに合わせて（必要に応じて）それ以上の大きさの台紙を用いているところです。この標本は縦が1m以上あります。
春先には生育地も視察する予定です。

NHKで放送した藻場の衰退に関する番組が動画視聴できるようになりました

NHKの中国地方限定番組フェイスで11月9日に放送された番組「海底が砂漠化する ～山口県沿岸“磯焼け前線”北上中～」がNHKエコチャンネルで視聴できます。

山口県や長崎県五島列島での藻場の衰退の様子が報道されています。水産大学校の村瀬先生が出演されています。

大学院生がフィリピンから帰国

研究室の大学院生がフィリピン大学から帰ってきました。

Coralline ball（マサゴバラ）

After finishing the coral survey in Tsushima Island, I came back home to attend a class of Marine Botany for undergraduate students on Monday morning. After finishing it, I returned to Nagasaki Prefecture to continue the another survey. Another one was held in Iki Island.
これも一ヶ月前のことになりますが，対馬の調査を終えた後，講義をするために一旦鹿児島に戻り，そのあとすぐに壱岐に行きました。

日本藻類学会会員の久場安次さん（沖縄県在住）が「潮間帯と海藻II 八重山の海岸を歩く」を出版されました。

島袋さんは海藻研OBで，瀬戸内海区水産研究所で海藻・海草の研究に従事されています。

Coral survey in Tsushima Island（対馬でサンゴ調査）

As the series of survey regarding coral community including fish assemblage, we had conducted a survey in Tsushima Island. This is the survey collaborated with the researchers of Nagasaki University and National Institute of Environmental Studies (NIES, Tsukuba City). Tsushima Island is located offshore of northwestern coast of Kyushu Island near south Korea.

もう一ヶ月前のことになりますが，国環研のサンゴモニタリングの一環で対馬に行ってきました。調査でいろいろなところに行っていますが，対馬に行くのはこれが初めてです。

Short stay in Ilorio, University of the Philippines（フィリピン大学ビサヤス校での海外研修を実施）

Today, MS students of the Marine Botany lab have arrived in Iloilo City, Philippines, to attend some special classes at the University of the Philippines, Visayas. This short stay includes some field trips at Panay Island including the visit to the SEAFDEC-AQD.

海藻研の院生4名がフィリピン大学ビサヤス校に短期滞在しています。いくつかの講義に出席すると共に，パナイ島や周辺小島嶼で調査を行う予定です。SEAFDEC-AQDも見学する予定です。

AMBL-Symposium（天草の国際シンポジウムで発表）

We attended an international symposium including field workshop entitled as "Biodiversity in Changing Coastal Waters in Tropical and Subtropical Asia" in Reihoku Town, Kumamoto Prefecture. More than 120 participants also attended.

This symposium included various field of coastal biology including corals, fish, algae, other kind of marine organisms.
There were a lots of interesting talk and posters in the symposium. I did not know that an area of the seagrass bed nearly same with the football field has been disappeared at the every thirty minutes in the world .

熊本県天草郡苓北町で開催された国際シンポジウム「 International Symposium including Field Workshop  Biodiversity in Changing Coastal Waters in Tropical and Subtropical Asia」に参加しました。海外からの研究者を中心に，120名以上が参加しました。サンゴや魚，藻類，海草，底生動物など，さまざまな発表が聞けました。フォルテスさんの講演では，地球上のアマモ場は，サッカー場（アメフトだったかも）ほどの面積が30分ごとに消えているとのことでした。

今年の7月末と8月上旬に開催した日本学術振興会の採択事業「 発見！体感！「海の森」に学ぶ生物多様性と環境への適応メカニズム」の報告書がひらめきときめきサイエンスのweb siteで公開されています。
