薩摩半島南部の枕崎市に来ました。台場公園で磯の状況を観察後，枕崎市水産センターで藻場再生の活動について講演しました。

鹿児島の食と健康に関するシンポジウムで講演

「鹿児島の食と健康に関するシンポジウム，進化するかごしまの食材」と題したシンポジウムで講演しました。会場となった鹿児島大学稲盛会館は安藤忠雄氏の設計で，講堂は「卵」の中のような形です。
私は「九州・沖縄の海藻利用から考える～「食文化」と「産業創出」」と題した話をしました。

Zostera marina（アマモが芽生えの季節）

On Friday afternoon, I checked the current status of Zostera marina at my study site, Kagoshima Bay. There were lots of germinated plants.

新しい実験をそろそろ始めるために、アマモの発芽状況を調査してきました。まだ数センチですが、あと1ヶ月もすれば実験が始められそうです。水温は20℃でした。

Zostera marina is widely distributed in the Pacific, and generally regarded as the perennial plant. However, the ecotype of Kagoshima Bay, southernmost distributional limit in the western Pacific, is known to have an annual life history.

大学院生のT谷君が宮城県塩竃市で開催された全国アマモサミット2013に参加し，ポスター発表しました。来年は青森県で開催されるとのことです。

Seaweed & Seagrass survey in Trang, Thailand（タイ・トランでの海藻・海草調査）

アンダマン海に面したタイのトラン沿岸で海藻・海草の調査が始まりました。タイのプリンス・ソンクラー大学の海藻・海草研究グループを中心に，ベルギー，日本の研究者が参加しての合同調査チームです。

Field survey for the seaweed and seagrass biodiversity was launched in Trang that is facing along the coast of Andaman Sea, Thailand. More than ten participants including Belgian, Thai and Japanese researchers are attending to publish the field Guide in this region.

環境省モニタリングサイト1000沿岸域調査の5年間の成果をまとめた報告書が公開されました

鹿児島大学水産学部水圏植物学研究室は，全国の主要な藻類学・水産植物学の研究機関と共に，環境省モニタリングサイト（モニ1000）沿岸域調査の海藻藻場モニタリングに委員，調査員として協力しています。モニ1000とは，全国に1000ヵ所のモニタリングサイトを設けて長期間の変化をモニタリングする環境省の事業です。

このたび，モニ1000沿岸域調査の5年間の成果を取り纏めた報告書「モニタリングサイト1000沿岸域調査（磯・干潟・アマモ場・藻場）2008-2012年度とりまとめ報告書」が，環境省から公開されました。

モニ1000での思い出に残る1コマ

韓国済州特別自治道のテレビ局の取材

韓国済州特別自治道のテレビ局（済州国際自由都市放送）の取材班が来訪し，藻場の再生に取り組む漁業者の活動を取材・撮影しました。済州島では磯焼けによる藻場の衰退が問題になっているようです。

取材と撮影は鹿児島県水産技術開発センターと指宿漁協岩本支所で行われ，水技センター研究員，漁協組合長，大学教員（寺田）がそれぞれの視点でコメントしました。鹿児島県では漁業者，行政（普及と技術開発含む），大学（基礎研究）が連携し，藻場の保全・再生活動が積極的に行われています。この連携や漁業者の取り組みに高い関心が集まりました。番組は12月に放送されるそうですが，インターネットでも配信されるそうです。

組合長の撮影後，私も漁港の岸壁で撮影されました。

Annual meeting of JSAR（水産増殖学会で発表）

平成25年度日本水産増殖学会第12回大会が鹿児島大学稲盛会館で開催され，海藻研からが大学院生4名がポスター発表をおこないました。

Annual meeting of the Japanese Society of Aquaculture Research (JSAR) was held at Kagoshima University Inamori Memorial Hall. Four students of the Marine Botany Lab were attended and presented the recent topics of their researches. 

Special lecture for the OFCF participants（OFCF研修生に特別講義を実施）

海外漁業協力財団の研修プログラムが鹿児島大学水産学部で8月下旬から11月まで開講されていますが，今日は藻類学を一日（4コマ分）担当しました。
ペルーやフィジー，インドネシアなどから来訪した参加者5名が有用海藻を中心とした藻類の生態や生活史，養殖法を学びました。午後には各自が顕微鏡を用いて海藻の生殖器官の観察を行いました。今回の材料は食用海藻としても有名なアサクサノリでした。精子嚢を見つけるのに苦労していましたが，最後には全員が雌雄の生殖器官の違いや果胞子放出の特性を理解しました。

Today, there were a special lecture for the foreign participants who have been invited by the Overseas Fishery Cooperation Foundation of Japan (OFCF). This is a part of the official program by the Faculty of Fisheries Kagoshima University regarding the Leadership Development in Fisheries Management. I attended as a invited instructor for a whole day program of the phycology.

後期開始

後期が始まりました。ここ数年同じですが，後期は鹿児島大学水産学部（月曜，水圏植物学）と熊本県立大学環境共生学部（火曜，海藻学）で講義をしています。
一昨日と昨日でそれぞれの講義が始まりました。藻類の講義は宮崎大学農学部（藻類分類学）でも教えていますが，こちらは2年に一度，宮崎に泊まり込んでの集中講義です。昨年講義をしたので，次は2014年の予定。

熊本の方は片道約1時間の新幹線通勤です。半年ぶりの熊本でした。

Autumn Meeeting of JSFS 2013（水産学会秋季大会で発表）

平成25年度日本水産学会秋季大会が三重大学で開催され，海藻研からは6名の大学院生がポスターまたは口頭発表しました。
来年は3月に函館（北海道大学），9月に福岡（九州大学）で開催されるそうです。

The autumn meeting of Japanese Society of Fisheries Science was held in Mie University, Tsu City. Six students of MS candidates of the Marine Botany Lab, Kagoshima University, were attended and presented the recent topics of their researches.

研究室が仮移転

引っ越し当日の様子
数日前から大型機器は搬出していましたが，いよいよ我々も引っ越す日がきました。

水産専門学校やこの建物ができたときからある（と思われる）中央実験台はこの機会に処分します。棚も処分しました。
引っ越し業者はさすがプロで，テキパキと荷物を搬出します。一番大変そうだったのは私の部屋の中央実験台（約10年前に特注）で，これは引き出しをすべて出してようやく動きました。

で，数時間後には仮移転先でこのようになりました。なんとか居住環境は確保できたのでホッとしましたが，24平米の部屋に私も含めて11人なので，かなり窮屈です。実験はさすがに無理で，他の部屋に確保しました。
私はmacbookを抱えていろんなところで仕事をするので，ここは（たぶん）ほぼ学生専用スペースです。学生のみなさん，安心して下さい。

Field survey in Muroran（室蘭でモニタリング調査を実施）

After I finished a workshop in Nagasaki University, I moved to Hokkaido to conduct the field survey of kelp forest in Muroran. Researchers of Hokkaido, Mie and Kagoshima University were attended.
Indeed, we were expected to conduct it in July, but it was postponed by bad weather. Today, weather was good almost without waves.
北海道室蘭市でマコンブ群落のモニタリング調査を実施しました。7月は荒天で中止になりましたが，今回は快晴で波もなく，無事に調査ができました。

Muroran Marine Staion (Old Bld)

Muroran Marine Station of Hokkaido University was already moved to the downtown of the City in 2012, but old building was still there.
北大室蘭臨海実験所は2012年に市街地に移転しましたが，旧施設はひっそりとそこにありました。

Rのワークショップ

長崎大学環東シナ海環境資源研究センターで開催された「R」のワークショップに参加しました。Rとはオープンソースの統計解析解析システムで，海藻研ではデータの解析や作図に用いています。

Field survey in Ibusuki（指宿市での調査）

We conducted the field survey in Ibusuki, Kagoshima Prefecture. Some red algae,  Chondria armata and Digenea simplex were collected.

薩摩半島南部の指宿市で海藻生育調査を行いました。

Digenea simplex

There was high dense community of Digenea simplex. This species was formerly harvested by local inhabitants as the crude drugs, especially in the islands.
海底一面にマクリ群落が広がっています。以前は虫下しの生薬として利用されていた海藻です。奄美では，雑炊にして服用していたそうです。

Chondria armata

 Chondria armata. This species was also used as the crude drugs like Digenea.
 ハナヤナギも見られました。小さな海藻ですが，分枝が繊細で，美しいですね。

We also confirmed a small green alga, Caulerpa lentirifera. This species was reported from this region by Terada et al. (2012, in Japanese).

クビレズタもありました。本種は南西諸島各地で見られますが，近年では九州南部での生育も確認されています。沖縄や鹿児島では，「海ぶどう」の名前で養殖されています。

Looks like woolly bear, but is algae. Thorea gaudichaudii from Yoron Island.
"Hair" is the assimilatory filaments that were elongated from medulla.

与論島で採集したシマチスジノリを観察しましたが，同化糸が毛のように長いですね。このあと微分干渉顕微鏡でも観察しましたが，単胞子が形成されていました。

Open house （鹿児島大学のオープンキャンパス）

Open house of the Kagoshima University was held today. More than 160 high school students including their parents visited Fisheries Department. Weather was fine, but temperature was 97˚F (36˚C).

鹿児島大学水産学部でオープンキャンパスがありました。
気温36℃，炎天下の中，160名以上の高校生，保護者のみなさんが参加されました。

高校生でいっぱいの23号教室。
このあと，大富教授による模擬講義がありました。

We presented recent research topics of the algae and corals. Asami is talking with a high school student who are interested in the seaweeds.

水産生物・海洋学分野の展示スペース。
4年生のT木さんが高校生に海藻やサンゴのことを紹介しています。海藻研のI川さんとS田くんの出身高校の学生さんで，卒業生のK房さんが先生をしています。世の中狭いですね。

Old but important books（古いけど大切な書籍）

We will be moving our laboratory to a temporal facility by the end of this month for the renovation of the current building. It will be renovated by the end of March. So, we have to move two times in a half year.

Anyway, we have to pack everything including equipments and books and move to the temporal facility. 

Today I packed old books in the carton boxes.

今月末に引っ越すので，その作業を始めました。（普通の研究室にはありえないほどの）莫大な数の本があるので，手始めに古くて貴重な本から始めました。

Research voyage at off Mageshima Island（馬毛島沖で海洋調査を行いました）

We went on board the T/S Nanseimaru, Kagoshima University, and conducted the survey at offshore of Mageshima Island, northern end of the Ryukyu Archipelago.

鹿児島大学水産学部附属練習船南星丸に乗船し，馬毛島沖で調査を実施しました。

At the study site, we collected sand-dwelling dinoflagellate from the seafloor at more than 30m deep using the bottom sampler. Furthermore, vertical distribution of underwater PAR and temperature were measured using CTD.
調査サイトは馬毛島のはるか南の沖合です。水深30m以上の場所で，採泥器を使って海底の砂を採取しました。また，CTDを使って水中光量と温度を測定しました。調査は科研の採択課題の調査が目的で，純粋な自然科学的な研究です。島のかかえる問題や土砂の影響等とは関係ありません。
