神戸大の調査に参加

神戸大が実施した兵庫県某所の調査に参加しました。毎年来ていますが、今年はとても穏やかな天候でした。黒く見えるのは全て藻場です。
この調査は神戸大、 三重大、水産大、鹿大（年によっては海洋大や水研も）の研究者が参加する大規模な調査で、他大学の先生方とお話しすることができるのも楽しみのひとつです。

馬毛島沖での調査航海 (Research voyage at the offshore of Mageshima Island)

海藻研の4年生が馬毛島沖で漸深帯（水深30-50m）に生育する海藻類の調査をおこないました。鹿児島大学水産学部附属練習船南星丸の調査航海です。

Four BS students, Marine Botany Lab.,  carried out their survey at offshore of Mageshima Island by TS Nanseimaru of Kagoshima University. They collected the samples form more than 30 m in deep.

天皇皇后両陛下がアマモの育成状況を視察 (The emperor of Japan, H.I.M. Akihito, visits Seagrass Culture)

報道各社は6月6日，天皇皇后両陛下が神奈川県水産技術センターを訪問され，アマモの育成技術等について視察されたと報道します。

中海のオゴノリを有効利用 (Utilization of Gracilarioids in Nakaumi)

中国新聞は6月5日，中海に繁茂するオゴノリ類を肥料に活用する取り組みについて報道しています。

Chugoku Shinbun (Newspaper), Hiroshima, reported that a company that was recently established is trying to make a manure from Gracilarioids. These seaweeds can be seen around the coastal area of Nakaumi, Shimane Prefecture, however, nobody used it.

熊本県天草で藻場調査 (Survey at Amakusa, Kumamoto)

4年生のKすのき君とT屋君が熊本県天草下島で藻場調査をおこないました。

Two BS students were doing fieldwork for the entire day in Amakusa, Kumamoto Prefecture. This seaweed community is known as the southernmost distributional limit for some Sargassum and Myagropsis.

4年生のK山君が鹿児島市の桜島でワカメの生育状況を調査しました。

鹿児島湾口部のワカメはすでに枯れていますが，ここではまだ繁茂していました。同じ湾でも生育期が若干ずれているのかもしれません。

かごしま環境未来館で海藻観察会と押し葉作成会 (Seaweed-Watching Event by Kagoshima Museum of Environment)

かごしま環境未来館は、環境意識の高揚、環境保全活動の意欲の増進などを図るため、参加･体験型の環境学習や活動をおこなう鹿児島市の施設です。海藻研はかごしま環境未来館の活動に毎年協力しています。今年も，桜島での海藻観察会と押し葉の作成会をおこないました。

We had a seaweed-watching event for the public at Sakurajima Coast on May 15 as the official event of Kagoshima Museum of Environment. More than 15 people including children attended.

分布最南端のワカメを探す旅 (Natural distributional limit of Undaria pinnatifida)

 ワカメは元々東アジアの固有種で，日本における自然分布の南限は鹿児島県です。近年は，南半球や大西洋で外来種の問題を引き起こしています。
今回，学生が自然分布の南限の現況について調査しました。最も南のワカメを探す旅です。

Undaria pinnatifida, Wakame in Japanese, is known as the East Asian endemic species, and its southernmost natural distributional limit is reported to be Kagoshima. Recently, it is also known as the invaded species in some foreign countries, such as USA, Mexico, Australia and Europe.
This year, students of Marine Botany Lab have started the field survey to confirm the current exact southernmost distributional limit of this species.

南さつま市のオキチモズク (Nemalionopsis tortuosa in Kagoshima)

薩摩半島南部の南さつま市で，オキチモズクの生育調査をおこないました。
オキチモズクは環境省レッドリストに掲載されている絶滅危惧種で，水のきれいな用水路などに生育します。生育地は全国でも十数カ所程度です。

Field survey of Nemalionopsis tortuosa has started in Kagoshima Prefecture. As the first step, we visited Kawanabe Town of Satsuma Peninsula. This species can be found in the clean creek at the country side, and is recorded as an endangered species by Japanese Ministry of Environment.

海藻ではなく，淡水藻を研究することになったF本さん。用水路をひたすら歩きます。次は麦わら帽と日焼け止めが必要ですね。
Although she is a member of "Marine" Botany Lab, she chose freshwater algae for her BS thesis material. She walked a long distance along the creek.

大分県のクロメ (Edible "gooey" seaweed, Ecklonia kurome)

先日，民放の放送番組で函館のガゴメと大分県のクロメが 紹介されていました。
学生の皆さんには講義で放送のことを簡単に触れましたが，大分県のクロメの写真を掲載しておきます。2008年に佐伯市で調査した際の写真です。

Last week, a popular TV show of Japan introduced two edible "gooey (or sticky)" seaweeds. One of them was Ecklonia kurome from Oita Prefecture, Kyushu I.

クロメは本州中南部，九州，四国に生育します。「海中林」と呼ばれる藻場を形成する海藻の一種です。
Ecklonia kurome is distributed in Kyushu, Shikoku. and southern part of Honshu Is, and composes kelp forest in this region.

薩摩竹島学術調査 (Field survey in Satsuma-Takeshima)

少し前の調査ですが，鹿児島大学の総合学術調査として，鹿児島大学水産学部附属練習船南星丸で屋久島近傍の薩摩竹島に行きました。水産学部，国際島嶼教育研究センターが中心となり，教育学部，法文学部の教員・学生も参加しての総合調査です。調査内容は海藻，有孔虫，ベントス，社会学など多岐にわたります。

We visited to Satsuma-Takeshima Island a couple weeks ago by our university vessel, Nanseimaru. Satsuma-Takeshima is an isolated island in the northern part of Ryukyu Islands. It was the joint survey with the RCPI (Research Center for the Pacific Islands of Kagoshima University) that is including the faculties and students of the departments of education, law and letters.

離島調査では，南星丸に交通艇を積み込んで行きます。上陸用に用いたり，沿岸域の調査に用います。
We brought a boat on the Nanseimaru for coastal survey.

葛西臨海水族園の企画展を見学 ("The Wonderland of Seaweed" at Tokyo Sea Life Park)

すでに終了していますが，院生のK野君が葛西臨海水族園の企画展「藻場・海のゆりかご──海藻たちのワンダーランド」を先月見学してきました。
Mr Kawano, the MS student of the lab, visited the Tokyo Sea Life Park last month to watch the special exhibition.

山口湾で養殖・販売されるカイガラアマノリ（紅きらら）(Porphyra tenuipedalis in Yamaguchi)

山口市の広報誌、「市報やまぐち」の4月1日号では、カイガラアマノリ（商品名紅きらら）の天日干し風景が表紙に掲載されています。山口県水産研究センターが平成16年度から自生種の増殖試験に着手し、平成20年度には山口県漁協と事業化に成功しました。「紅きらら」の名前で平成21年に商標登録しています。

カイガラアマノリは紅藻アマノリ属藻類の一種ですが、貝殻に穿孔する微少な胞子体（糸状体）世代から配偶体（巨視的な世代）が直接出る点で他種と異なっています。生育地が少ないことから、環境省レッドリストに掲載されている絶滅危惧種です。

収穫時期は1-2月頃で、大潮の深夜に摘採します。貝殻の上に生育する海苔なので、貝殻の破片や砂粒を取り除いて天日干しするきめ細やかな作業が必要とのことです。

石垣島のヒメフカミドリシオグサ：八重山毎日新聞 (Cladophora horii in Ishigakijima)

八重山毎日新聞は4日、石垣島白保の轟川河口でのヒメフカミドリシオグサ調査の様子を報道しています。
Yaeyama Mainichi Shinbun (newspaper), Ishigaki City, Okinawa, reported that a specialist surveyed Cladophora horii and other related species in Ishigaki Island (May 4).

ヒジキ収穫に関する各地の報道 (Hijiki harvest)

ヒジキの収穫が各地で始まっています。
沖縄県与那原はタンカーの重油流失事故の影響を懸念して収穫を見合わせています。

"Hijiki", Sargassum fusiforme, harvest has begun at the various places of Japan. Local newspapers reported.

Fishermen of Yonabaru village, Okinawa, has postponed it for the oil spill accident that happened last year.

陸奥湾のアマモ場：毎日新聞 (Mainichi Shinbun: Seagrass bed in Mutsu Bay)

学生が桜島で藻場調査（ワカメ、トゲナシマダラ）(Field work at Sakurajima)

大学院生のK堀君と4年生のK山君が2日、鹿児島市の桜島で藻場調査をおこないました。

On May 2, two students, Mrs Kurahori and Kuwayama, conducted their field survey at Sakurajima, Kagoshima. In Sakurajima, there is quite a lot of Undaria community.

最南端のアマモ群落で調査 (Field survey of Zostera marina at the southern-most distributional lmit of western Pacific)

大学院生のK野君が鹿児島県指宿市にある日本最南端のアマモ群落で調査をおこないました。
Mr Kawano, MS Candidate of Marine Botany Lab, conducted the field survey at Ibusuki City, Kagoshima Prefecture.  He has a project of eco-physiological study of Japanese seagrass, Zostera marina. This seagrass bed is known to be the southern-most distributional limit of Zostera marina in the western Pacific.

隠岐のワカメは、湯通しして塩蔵にする一般的なワカメと異なり、水洗いして板ノリ状に乾燥し、販売しています。養殖も高密度で栽培し、葉厚の薄い若い個体を収穫している点が特徴です。

三陸で大規模な磯焼けの恐れ、震災の影響 (Seaweed degradation in Sanriku region, Tsunami disaster)

毎日新聞は26日、津波による土砂やがれきの堆積によって、三陸沿岸各地で磯焼けが発生する恐れがあることを報道しています。岩手県の調査です。

下甑島での調査、チャボオバクサ、カメノテ (Field Work in Shimokoshiki Island, including Pterocladiella nana)

甑島列島は薩摩半島西部沖約40kmにある島々で、上甑島、中甑島、下甑島の3島と小島嶼からなります。甑島にはこれまで何度も訪れていますが、最南端の手打地区には行ったことがありませんでした。漫画「Dr.コトー診療所」の舞台（モデルとなった先生は今も地域医療に従事）になったところです（注：原作）。

Yesterday and today, I was in Shimo-Koshiki island to conduct the survey and meeting. Shimo-Koshiki Island is an island chain of Koshiki Islands, 40km of the west offshore from Satsuma Peninsula, Kagoshima Prefecture. 
I had visited this island several times. However, it was the first time visit to Teuchi village that is located in the southern-most place of the island. 

佐賀県産ノリ，8年連続日本一 (Nori of Saga Prefecture: the higest production in Japan)

朝日新聞は4月20日，佐賀県産の養殖ノリが生産枚数，販売額ともに8年連続日本一になる見通しであると報道しています。販売額は福岡県と共に過去最高を記録しました。

津波による三陸ワカメの影響 (Tsunami Disaster: Damage of Undaria cultivation)

読売新聞は4月20日，三陸のワカメ養殖が津波によって甚大な被害を受けたとを報道しています。ワカメ養殖は例年3-4月に収穫の最盛期を迎えますが，例年よりも養殖が遅れていたため，本格的な収穫前に津波の被害を受けてしまいました。津波前の今季の収穫量は，宮城県で635トン，岩手県で15トンと報道されています。
（参考：平成16年の生産量，宮城県約19000トン，岩手県約27000トン）
